Sinks come with a faucet that supplies the cold or hot water used to wash things. They also have a drain with a strainers for draining the water or a garbage disposal for shredding food waste. Some sinks can also have a liquid soap dispenser.
Most kitchen sinks today are made of stainless steel, because of the cost, durability and ease of use. The most common stainless steel used in sinks manufacturing is the 304 series stainless steel, with a 18/10 chrome/nickel content. Most common finishes for sinks are brushed finish, satin finish, matte finish and mirror finish.
The two types of installing a kitchen sink are Undermount(bottom-mount) and Topmount(self-rimming). For the topmount installation, the hole is cut into the countertop and the sink will stay suspended by its rim. For the undermount installation, the sink will be mounted under the material by using a set of mounting hardware(clips) and waterproofing the joint between the sink and the countertop with silicone sealants.
Single bowl sinks(a category which also includes bar sinks) are mostly used for small kitchens and bars. Double bowl sinks are the most popular in most modern homes, because of the ease of use they provide. Triple bowl sinks are usually used in a large kitchen or a restaurant.
While installing a kitchen sink seems like an easy job, whether you are remodeling your kitchen or building a home, it is very important to consult a professional installer/plumber, because a simple mistake can ruin both your countertop and sinks or even the cabinet used to mount the sink in.

Trees are not just a key to the natural ecosystem, they are an essential part of our life experience. From majestic individual trees that have historic significance or are simply beautiful, to a quiet grove of greenery we seek for solitude, trees enrich our life experience simply by just being there. Trees are the longest lived and largest plant form on Earth and throughout recorded history trees have been acknowledged as symbols of power, wisdom, fertility and life.
Trees are also symbols of immortality, being able to live to considerable age. Pando, a Trembling Aspen located in Utah, USA is considered the world’s oldest living tree. Pando is estimated to be over 800,000 years old. Pando is a clonal colony of a single male Quaking Aspen. This massive trees root system covers 107 acres and is estimated to weigh in excess of 6,000 tons which makes it the heaviest known living organism in the world.

Throughout the world many different species of trees live amazingly long lives. The verified oldest measured ages are:
Norway Spruce (Picea abies) 9,550 years
Baobab (Digitata Adansonia) 6,600 years
Great Basin Bristlecone Pine (Pinus longaeva) 4,844 years
Alerce (Fitzroya cupressoides) 3,622 years
Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) 3,266 years
Huon-Pine (Largarostrobos franklinii) 2,500 years
Rocky Mountain Bristlecone Pine (Pinus aristata) 2,435 years
Because of their potential for longevity, trees are frequently planted as living memorials. We become attached to trees that we or those we love have planted and tended.
Trees add beauty and grace to any locale. Blossoms in the spring, verdant summer foliage and breathing taking colors in the fall; trees mark the seasons as they enhance the beauty of world. They make life more pleasurable, peaceful and relaxing. The majesty, endurance and strength of trees imparts a cathedral like quality as they help us to experience a primal connection with the earth and our most deeply held cultural and spiritual values.
The tree has always been a cultural symbol. The tree is often used to represent nature or the environment itself. In South America a tribe of Indians hold the belief that the trees of the forest hold up the sky. According to ancient tribal legends, the downfall of the trees will precipitate the destruction of Mother Earth.

Since ancient times, cultures around the world have honored trees with reverence and respect. Cultures in Australia and Asia regard the trees as mythical ancestors. Trees were often worshipped as the living embodiment of their gods and were believed to have holy medicinal applications and miraculous healing qualities for the body, mind and spirit.
The Druids of Europe were particularly influenced by trees and believed that trees possessed great mysterious powers. The Ancient Greeks are also known to have had a highly developed respect for the nobility and power of trees. Painting and pottery from the period display images of gratification and reverence. The Greek culture held the Bay Tree in especially high esteem as the tree was dedicated to their God Apollo and his young son Aesculapius and was held in sacred honor. Aesculapius was the God of Medicine and thus the Bay Tree was believed to have healing power and was used in many medical potions.
Built in the mid-12th century as a tribute to the Mother of the King, Ta Prohm Temple in southern Cambodia is the undisputed capital of the Kingdom of the Trees. The mystical and enchanting jungle temples beauty is explored with delight and left with deep regret. It remains virtually untouched by archaeologists except for the clearing of a narrow pathway for visitors. Because of its natural and pristine state, one can experience the wonder and joy of the early explorers when they discovered these amazing ancient monuments in the middle of the nineteenth century.
Wreathed in silvery mist and shrouded by dense jungle, the temple of Ta Prohm is ethereal in every aspect and conjures up a romantic mysterious aura. Banyan, kapok and fig trees spread their gigantic sprawling roots over giant stones, probing walls and tearing terraces apart as their branches and leaves intertwine to form a lush sheltering canopy over the structures. Trunks of these noble trees twist amongst stone pillars and over cobbled walls. The strange, haunting charm of the temple trees entwines itself about you as you go, as inescapably as the roots have wound themselves about the walls and towers. When visiting the awe inspiring Kingdom of the Trees one quickly becomes aware of how powerfully present and fully alive trees are and one can not escape the all-encompassing connection trees provide in the intricate and fragile web of existence.

More than 8000 tree species, 10 percent of the world’s total, are threatened with extinction. Destruction of forests and woodlands and unsustainable logging of valuable timbers stands are causing the devastation of many important species. Clearing and burning of our forests leads to increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, a significant contributor to global warming.
It saddens the soul to realize that the majority of the citizens of the Earth are so accustomed to seeing trees that they take them for granted; forgetting that these noble entities are fundamental to our very existence. Trees act as the living lungs of the planet, sequestering carbon dioxide and returning to us precious, life giving oxygen.
Trees have numerous aesthetic and economic benefits beyond their important role in carbon sequestration and oxygen production. Trees offer shelter, filter water, cleanse the air of pollution, moderate the climate, help prevent soil erosion as well as providing wildlife habitat, scenic beauty and a plethora of items we use daily. We rely on trees for paper products, building materials, fuel, food, medicine and more.
Benefits of Tree Planting
We all desire abundant forests for our children and grandchildren. Trees maintain sustainable soils and control erosion. Retaining soil in place by their root mass, deflecting wind driven rain with their canopies and contributing nutrients with their leaves, trees are crucial to sustaining and improving the earth’s ecosystem.
Trees cleanse our air and water. From auto and factory emissions and ozone in industrialized areas to fertilizer and pesticide runoff from rural farms, trees absorb toxic pollutants as they recharge ground water and sustain streamflow. Trees also combat global warming. As trees grow they remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the major contributor to global warming.
We depend on trees for their nutritional bounty. Fruit and nutmeats are a staple of diets around the world. A fruit tree can live for more than forty years and produce more than 10,000 pounds of fruit. A tree truly gives life. Apples are one of the most popular fruit tree choices and a mature apple tree can produce up to 500 apples in a season. Consider planting pear, plum, cherry, apricot, orange, lime, lemon or banana trees. Research what will grow well in your local area. Plant and enjoy an organic harvest grown in harmony with nature. Nothing tastes sweeter!
Trees are used world wide as landscape amenities to soften the harsh outline of buildings, to create green spaces in communities, provide privacy, to screen unsightly views and to dampen noise pollution as well as beautify the property. Shrubs and trees, properly planted and tended on a residential or commercial lot can significantly increase real estate value. Mature, healthy trees add an average of 20 per cent to a property’s value.
Planting trees saves energy. Trees planted strategically around our homes will decrease cooling costs in summer and provide a windbreak against the cold winds of winter thus saving on heating expenses. Depending on species and maturity, the cooling shade of trees can reduce home energy consumption by up to 20 percent. Air temperature in the vicinity of trees is cooler than that away from trees. The larger the tree, the greater the cooling effect. Tree planting in urban areas moderates the heat-island effect caused by concrete paving and heat absorbing buildings.
Planting trees feels good! It is immensely satisfying to plant a tree, happy in the knowledge that this gift to the earth will bring joy, shelter and sustenance to our children, grandchildren and countless future generations.
Environmental Stewardship
Problems caused by massive and increasing levels of deforestation worldwide has raised awareness of environmental issues and the crucial role forests play. Climate change is the largest environmental issue the world faces this century. People of all ages throughout the world agree that we must act. However sometimes the task seems overwhelming, the challenge too global for any one person to make a difference. Wrong! Every individual act has rewards and consequences.
Celebrate Life! Plant A Tree!
Plant trees in your yard, volunteer with civic and community tree restoration efforts and contribute to non-profit organizations implementing reforestation.
Consider green gifting. Are you looking for the perfect gift for a birthday, wedding, anniversary celebrations or any milestone occasion? Are you looking for a meaningful way to mark the birth of your child or grandchild? Would you like a special way to memorialize a loved one who has passed away, a unique way to honor a veteran? Giving the gift of a celebration or memorial tree is a unique gift that will last a lifetime.
There is strength in numbers. Together we can make a difference. Take action by living a green lifestyle to reduce your carbon output, educate children about protecting the planet we all share and be part of the solution simply by planting more trees.

The fireplace-the part of the house that keeps us warm when it’s cold outside-is the centerpiece of most American homes. Even in the advent of electronic heaters and other modern temperature control equipment, the fireplace never lost its value. It is a part of your interior design, giving your homes a more elegant yet nostalgic look. So if you are planning to renovate your house, build a new one or just want to put a fireplace in your living room, there are lots of design to choose from. This is where fireplace design photos come in handy.

Let’s face it: it is really hard to decide which style would fit in your house. This is doubly hard for people who have the slightest idea about interior design let alone building a fireplace. First you have to consider where you would want to put your fireplace. Then there’s the material to be used and the contractor that you will hire for the job (unless you are familiar with carpentry and can build a fireplace on your own).

You would also have to consider your budget. Even if you want a very stylish hearth but your finances wouldn’t allow for it, then you just might choose the next best style. While you can mix and match all the ideas that come to your mind, it is better to look at some design photos first to give you a general idea of possible styling solutions for your home.

Modern times call for houses with contemporary look. This is the trend these days. Yet some prefer a more traditional appeal. There are even avant-garde designers who fuse the old with the new, giving your home a unique look-it’s neither traditional nor contemporary, but it has the best of both worlds. Whichever you prefer, the key really is to incorporate the design of your fireplace with the overall design of your homes. Or else you could be creating a blackhole inside your homes because your fireplace just doesn’t fit right.

The good thing is that most house builders who specialize in designing fireplaces provide you with the photos of their own work. These are photos of their commissioned work from different clients. You can choose to build a fireplace based from these existing design photos or you may ask them to create a custom fireplace for your home.

In terms of fusion designs or a combination of modern and conventional, there are a lot of possibilities. At one point you might think that the fireplace in the photo you are looking at is traditional, not knowing that its fire is running on gas instead of traditional wood. Looking closer, you will have seen minute details, which reveals its contemporary influences.

Small spaces and crowds just don’t mix, but what do you do when you’re stuck with both? How do you accommodate for everyone and everything and still have room left over? Where do you put all of the extra furniture that, otherwise, might not fit?

Well honestly, in a situation in which one to three people are shoved in a tight space, it’s actually very helpful to rely on loft beds and bunk beds. They can definitely help you make the most of the tiny quarters you’re forced to live in. Thanks to the varying degree of options in which they accommodate crowds: futon bunk beds, twin-over-twin, twin-over-full, and the less frequent twin-over-king and queen make these two choices ideal.

What Do You Do When Three’s a Crowd?

Suppose you have three people sharing a small place rather than your typical two, and you need a space saving option for the three of you? Well, that’s where triple loft beds come in. Loft beds are great for kids’ rooms, dorm rooms and studio apartments where three people are basically living on top of each other and need an ideal living and sleeping arrangement that’s space-conservative.

Triple loft beds are a way of combining two or three bunk-style beds into one single loft. They are typically arranged in an “L” shape (most likely placed in a corner) in which two beds are arranged up high and the third bed is built below. What also makes this choice convenient, and a great way to save space, is the space that the extra beds would have normally occupied is now free for additional pieces of furniture.

You now have room to organize other things underneath the loft and to the side of it, such as…

# a desk
# a dresser
# a small couch or futon
# file cabinet
# a refrigerator

Although they are wonderful for adults as well as kids, kids especially love loft beds, because they are innovative and climbable. Everyday they’ll have the fun task of climbing up and down to get onto their beds… and we all know how much kids really love being high up when they get the chance. I remember feeling the exact same way when I was young.

What Do You Do When You Want it All?

All-in-one loft beds are also an excellent means of saving space in a studio, dorm or child’s room. All-in-one loft beds combine multiple items that, not always, but typically include the following…

    * a set of drawers
* a desk
* couch or futon-like seating
* shelving

Some will also occasionally include a wardrobe. This is particularly helpful because you no longer have to disperse all of these items throughout your room. They’re all in one location, which can save you a tremendous amount of space.

Two most notable space saving features are when a desk or set of drawers are built into the bed. Since both take up a lot of space independently on their own, you get to cheat a little and eliminate the need for a dresser that would’ve otherwise stolen a chunk of space in your room. And the desk that might’ve other eaten an entire wall up has pretty much given that wall back to you because it’s built into the bed. You’ll be able to fit additional things in a room that might’ve otherwise proven difficult.

What Do You Do When Two Beds are One Too Many?

Bunk beds are the traditional version of a loft bed, with a bunk on top and a bunk on the bottom. They used to be relatively common, but as the 80s became a thing of the past, bunk beds aren’t quite as popular as they used to be. Today you’ll find that bunk beds are still available, but they are not nearly as space-saving as loft beds or triple loft beds, due to the fact that they only accommodate for sleeping two people but don’t really help you save space with additional furniture.

But that doesn’t make them completely useless, right? Maybe all you really need is a way to fit two beds in a room that might’ve otherwise difficult with two separate beds. Well if that’s the case, then you already know bunk beds are great for all tight spaces. Besides the usual living arrangement in dorms or studio apartments, they’re great for single or two-child households.

With two children, they’ll obviously be able to share one room. But with one child you might find them very useful if your child tends to have friends stay over frequently and you don’t have a guest room. Idealistically, the second bed can then be used as a guest bed. And in the meantime your child can just have fun switching beds whenever (s)he is up for it.

So there’s no question that loft beds, all-in-one loft beds, triple loft beds and bunk beds are all great ways of saving space in your kids’ room, dorms and even studio apartments. The advantage of combining sleeping and work areas together leaves more room for other things and eliminates the need of having to squeeze everything into a small room crammed with too much stuff.

There are many reasons why you may want to find out just how much your home is worth. With all of this speculation about house price falls, you may want to find out how much your property is worth simply to keep an eye on any decline in value. You may be thinking of selling up, and therefore want to find out how much you can put your house on the market for. Or maybe you are thinking of taking out a loan secured against your home and need to know what your equity levels are. Whatever your reasons for wanting to find out the value of your property there are some easy steps that you can take to do this.

Of course, you can get a professional valuation on your home, and whilst this will provide you with a more indepth report and an accurate valuation it may also cost you a pretty penny. If you do not want to fork out on a professional valuation you may want to consider using the services of an estate agent in order to find out how much your property is worth. If you do decide to use an estate agent to get a valuation on your home you should make sure that you get a valuation from at least three estate agents in order to get a more accurate idea of how much your property is worth.

If you only get a valuation from one estate agent you run the risk of under-valuation or over-valuation depending on whether the estate agent wants to try and get a quick sale on your home or wants to make more commission in the event that you do sell your home. By getting a second opinion from another estate agent you can get a better idea of whether the first figure was accurate – however, you may find that the second valuation provides you with a figure that is significantly higher or lower than the first. Using a third estate agent to value your property can help to solve this issue, and can give you a firmer idea of the value of your home.

You should make sure that you do not tell the estate agencies that you have already had a valuation from another estate agent, otherwise they may base their valuation on the figure that the previous estate agent gave to you – by not disclosing this information you can increase the chances of getting an unbiased valuation that is not based on another agent’s opinion.

In addition to getting valuations from a number of estate agents, you can also check on the prices of similar properties in the same area yourself by checking out the property pages in newspapers and the prices from estate agents. This will further help you to get a better idea of how much your property is really worth.

Products for caring for your wood furniture abound. If you don’t believe me, just take a look in your local supermarket or discount store and you’ll see many polishes and waxes available to choose from. Whether you are trying to care for a dining room table or an ornate wooden cuckoo clock, you are confronted with so many choices it may be difficult to come to a decision. Every product claims that they protect your wood better than the next product. In reality, most of them will remove dust and clean the surface, but they won’t do much else.

Using a polish or a wax may provide a certain amount of protection against scratches and scrapes to your furniture, however they really don’t give you any lasting protection like a quality wood finish would. They really don’t improve the durability of an old finish or revive it, either. In fact, the only real difference between a polish and a wax is that polish will leave a thin liquid film on the surface when you wipe down your wood, and wax will leave a thin film of solid wax on the surface. The liquid will eventually evaporate, while the wax will not.

Wax has been used since the very beginning of written history on wood items that needed to be protected, both as a finish on bare wood and to protect a finish that has been applied to wood. Wax is solid at room temperature, but a solvent can be mixed in to help the wax dissolve and create a softer product that is easier to apply to your wood. The solvent will evaporate out eventually, leaving a nice solid layer of wax on the surface. Some people prefer to use mineral spirits as a solvent with their wax, but be sure you read the instructions on the wax you’ve chosen first. Some say you need to use turpentine or toluene instead. Turpentine will add a smell to the wax that you may find irritating, and using toluene can be tricky because it evaporates very quickly. Solvents will affect your drying time, so if you need a longer drying time, mineral spirits may be the solvent you should choose. If you want it to dry quickly, opt for the toluene.

Polishes, on the other hand, are very different from waxes. They are a liquid that may include a very small quantity of oil or wax. Polishes usually completely evaporate over a period of time, so in the long run it is less protective than wax. You can divide polish into two different categories depending on which solvents they use in their formula. First, you will find petroleum-based solvents. Petroleum or oil-based solvents evaporate much more slowly and are similar to mineral spirits. The other type of solvent used in polish is an emulsion of water and oil-based solvents. This type is excellent for cleaning, since the water will remove water-soluble dirt, while the oil removes oil-soluble dirt. In the end, you’ll need to choose the kind of polish that suits the job you want it to do.
